ACTING FUN - CREATING A PLAY

Enjoyable and Adaptable

Having over a decade’s experience of delivering workshops for young people we are highly skill at adjusting to the needs of the individuals in the group and adapting our aims and activities to ensure everyone participates and has an enriching and enjoyable experience.  Acting Fun takes place over a week, with a day off for the young people to learn their lines. One the first day the young people create their ideas , we then write the play based on their ideas ( usually a children's adventure comedy, though we can also look at more serious issues). Each young person gets to play the character of their choosing. The week is a mixture of rehearsing the play and fun games and exercises. At the end of the week we then perform the play to an invited audience ( usually of parents and carers) . The aim is to have fun whilst creative a inclusive performance. Whether an individual young person wants to be a hero, play a villain or dance we try and adapt the script so everyone a real sense of pride and ownership on their performance.

Extensive Experience Working with Vulnerable Young People

The workshops are led by Paul Vitty. In addition to being a highly experienced director and actor he has over 15 years experience as an award winning manager in the voluntary sector. This has given him a unique insight into the needs of vulnerable young people and extensive experience in safeguarding. Paul has taught art and drama for a mental health charity, managed a learning disability befriending programme, key worked homeless youths, and created a managed a volunteer programme ( including mentors) for a Family Support Charity working across numerous London Boroughs. By booking Paul you don’t just get a drama tutor but someone highly skills with meeting the needs of some of our communities’ most vulnerable young people the needs of some of our communities’ most vulnerable young people

Clear Measurable Impact

The central aim of the workshops is for the young carers to have fun. We remain highly adaptable and responsive to the needs of the individual group and what they enjoy and hope to achieve. We are also acutely aware of the need within the charity sector to be able to record the impact the workshops make ( especially for funders) and can help record the impact the workshops have on building their emotional resilience, confidence, ability to interact with their peers and self responsibility.

Highly Recommended

It has been unbelievably popular it is one of my favourite weeks of the year.  80% of drama workshop attendees reported the workshop as their favourite YCP activity over the summer period.I felt it was amazing since the first day. The children were focused and thrilled to be involved in the whole experience. Thank you for all your enthusiasm with our young carers
What a way to spend a week of the summer holidays! It was fantastic for the staff here at Kingston Young Carers’ Project to see the leaps and bounds of progress made by the children who attended. The drama workshop is a brilliant way for children to express themselves, to gain confidence and to make new friends. Paul really helps the children to feel at ease and to challenge themselves. He remains professional at all times while having fun and bringing out the best in the children and young people. Thanks Paul for all your hard work this summer. We can’t wait until next year!

Kingston Young Carers

Paul Vitty is an engaging, dynamic and energetic tutor. Paul has delivered several workshops for South Hill Park Arts Centre and I would have no hesitation in recommending him for future work. Paul is able to establish a rapport with even the most hard-to-reach young people and inspire them to explore subjects as diverse as Shakespeare and Noel Coward. With his direct style, well-structured classes, and repertoire of games and activities, Paul is an effective and adaptable facilitator.  Highly recommended.

How long does it last?

The workshop can last anything between two hours and two weeks.  Five days is ideal but we are happy to be adaptable.

We will always do our best to work within the limitation of your budget and funders. A rough indication of price is £30 per hour or £800 for the full work including the writing off the play  specifically for your group.
